The Good, The Bad, and the League: 8/8 - 8/21

_Your semi-weekly dose of server problem-os, NA League news, and other!_ Summer Finals is this weekend, Hextech champions have been added to TFT, we’re closing in on Worlds! Also, sorry for the posting delay, currently helping with LCS finals in Detroit. **Follow-Ups:** * **Mac voice still not working properly** Bug assigned to a specialist. (Core bug is still being worked on, will be reaching out next week for updates). **Ongoing** * ** None ** **Server Stuff: ** * ** Friendlists not showing up in Client (8/19, ~45 minutes)** A change management update increased the number of database connections for chat within the client. However, the increase also caused player chatlists to fail to load. Engineers briefly made a change to the new connections, which fixed the problem once players relogged. * **Elevated Platform Reconnects(8/16, ~2 hours)** Automated monitoring notices a drop in game starts and platform reconnects. NOC alerts Riot teams and investigation starts looking at what changes were made or other reasons for the spikes. Engineers eventually find that a single memory chip on a board in a server in a room at a datacenter (wow, much specific) was throwing incorrect data and causing the problems. A full reboot of that board and start sequence fixes the issue and causes reconnect levels to fall back to normal levels. * **TFT board skins failing to load(8/14, ~13 hours)** New boards earnable via the first battlepass mission start are unable to be equipped and loaded. Store team investigates, and finds that the store catalogue doesn’t have the new boards enabled. Content teams enable the boards in the store, and players are able to redeem and activate their boards properly. **Game Stuff: ** * **Issues with emotes and little legends(8/2, ~26 minutes)** Automated alerts notify the NOC that issues are cropping up with recently purchased emotes and little legends not available for use. Before teams start a deep-dive investigation, the alerts cease and levels return to normal. _Morgageddon_ (Sorry about the delay, but here it is!)

Can you also address the immense Ping increase?

Idk what this is, but can yall add some more black, brown, mixed champs, or some with curly hair??? Yall I cant wait for the next champ because my girl look like she had dreadlocks 😂😩😩💁‍♀️💁‍♀️
Or the random shifting character models that will make you randomly hover somewhere about a meter away, even with morg and lux snares. This has made so many issues with me.

Random shifting characters sounds like packet loss or a failure to update rendering with new location data. Has this always ever happened when you play LoL, or just recently? Have you reached out to player support to run trace routes to see if you're losing packets?
My ping has gone up 45-50 the last few days. Used to be high 20’s and is now consistently around 75.
> **Nefas \(NA\) said:** My ping has gone up 45-50 the last few days. Used to be high 20’s and is now consistently around 75. When you're playing League, you should run the steps for a trace route, see what your actual hops are from your PC to our servers. And ideally have a set run when you're seeing 45-50 ping normally, then you can compare where and why it's 50% larger. https://support.riotgames.com/hc/en-us/articles/201752674-Network-System-and-League-of-Legends-Logs#wq2 I personally recommend the download link to WinMTR there, it provides packet loss where a base tracert doesn't.
When I'm playing I tend to lose more than I would like to. Thoughts?
Better Ping for west coast when? Or are NA Servers mostly for Midwest/East coasts only? Playing with 75 ping for years and more to come.
I find it funny how before clash happens i have 30 ping, and now that its here I have a consistent 77-85 ms....
Thoughts on balancing the game? I understand that Riot said they had no intention of balancing the game to make champions more "memorable", but with the increasing number of gameplay unsatisfaction is there going to be balancing?
> **Morgageddon \(NA\) said:** What ping increases? You didn't give much information to go off on... Theres a plethora of posts on both reddit and the boards detailing it, not sure how this isn't already known? https://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/general-discussion/E2ZvtEAh-riot-50-ping-increse this is the most viewed one for the boards and should provide enough detail, if you can respond to some of the comments there. Thanks :)
Just the patch few patches, I have super good internet with 22ms a game consistantly.

This is something that randomly started happening to me with the new patch, its only hard CC that does the random shift, its obnoxious.
> **Gall \(NA\) said:** When I'm playing I tend to lose more than I would like to. Thoughts? Obviously you need to get gud. If you want a serious comment, perhaps look at how you play and if there's obvious things you miss, like warding at certain times or aggressive/passive flashes.

Perhaps some transit provider changed something? But the brain is a pattern finding machine, so for a bunch of people it pattern-linking the problems to a high profile event, even if actually totally unrelated, is not unexpected...

But the brain is a pattern finding machine, so for a bunch of people it pattern-linking the problems to a high profile event, even if actually totally unrelated, is not unexpected... It's highly likely that a random node along their path is having problems, and it needs to be rebooted. It's also likely that their ISP made some routing changes, which could cause the increased ping. Could also be the Riot Direct backend, but I haven't seen any recent change management tickets around routing.
